What's the Value of Online Funnels
Read time: 3:55 minutes
Hey my friend!
Have you ever thought about how businesses convert views, likes, comments, and shares into leads and then eventually sales?
I was always fascinated by it. So I studied and observed more than 10-20 online businesses to find out what they do to make money online.
I found that they all use some sort of online funnel.
In today’s letter, you will learn what online funnels are, how they work, and how you can create one for your business.
Why Funnels Are Important
You’re probably asking:
Why do I even need to worry about funnels? Can’t I just make posts or run ads and put a link to my website?
Funny enough, that is a funnel—a trivial one—but a funnel.
So you can see what you’re doing here. You’re creating a path for your clients to follow to get to where you want them to be, aka in your calendar.
The importance of funnels lays in the ability to create fairly predictable and measurable system to bring people from a lead to a paying client (or an advocate for your business).
To put it briefly, funnels create sales in a structured way. But how?
How Funnels Make Sales
After observing a lot of funnels online, I noticed the pattern that unites them all. So ladies and gentlemen, I present to you my mind-tickling, mind-blowing, breathtaking funnel formula (I am just kidding, it’s not that fancy):

So you need a lead acquisition channel at the front of the funnel (aka Capture) to anchor the machine:
Content
Ads
Cold calling
Then some will buy right away, some won’t buy at all (because they are not ready), and the majority will be on the fence. The rough statistic goes that 10% of leads are ready to buy right away, 80% are still thinking, and 10% will not buy at all. Most creator businesses survive off of the top 10%, which is fine. But what about a giant piece in the middle (the 80%)? A lot of customer who need your services are hesitant about buying. So they fall through the cracks when you don’t use funnels.
That’s why the "Nurture" component exists. It’s role to push the 80% of the leads over the fence to the “Yes” side. And the best way to do that, in my opinion, is with email funnels.
Then the last component is simple—it's where leads become clients.
Usually, the bottom of the funnel ends with a sales call.
So I noticed that the majority of executive coaches do this: Capture —> Purchase. But if you include the middle of the funnel, a couple of things will happen:
Total number of calls will increase (because of that 80%)
You will close more customers because they will be warm
You will build more authority in the industry by being in the front of their minds
You will build a powerful brand as well
You will own the audience
But in my humble opinion, the best funnel for executive coaches who make $10k-30k a month is an email funnel.
Why I Like Email Funnels & How Do They Look
This funnel is your best friend. Because email is the ultimate machine for
owning your audience
keeping them close to you
warming them up in one-to-many-but-feels-like-one-to-one fashion.
I know, it’s a crazy word I made up…
What I mean is that email has this dual nature to it.
It is a private but at the same time public communication.
You’re in control of what you say and where you lead your clients with your emails and offers. It is a great funnel to prevent the leads for your creator business from falling into the "cracks.”
The example of "cracks" would be this:
You run ads and get X amount of executives to go to your website. But you make an offer there right away without getting them on your email list. 80% of them will not buy that time because they’re hesitant and need more trust, so they will click out of your website.
I am not saying don’t offer right away, but bring these lurkers into your email world.
Warm them up and build that trust so they feel ready to buy.
Here is my favorite funnel to build for my clients:

There are a couple of brief things I want to tell you about this funnel:
A lead magnet will give the incentive to your clients/customers to give their emails. If a lead magnet is useful, that will reinforce your authority in their minds
The sequence should deliver a lead magnet a little bit every day for 3-5 days. At this point, some will already buy, but more will just use it. So challenges or several-part lead magnets will be the best.
The weekly newsletter will contain free, valuable information for your target market. It should help them with their careers as leaders and decision-makers. This will nurture the rest of your leads and convince them to buy.
I think I will write a separate letter diving deeper into this funnel. So as of right now, that’s all.
Use this funnel to get the most out of your acquisition efforts for your business. Or at least, it's something that I observed working.
I hope it was useful! See you next week!
